Pertagas Provides Aid and Deploys Emergency Response Team in Palembang
JAKARTA — PT Pertamina Gas (Pertagas), part of Pertamina’s Gas Subholding, has stepped up its contribution to tackling forest and land fires in Sumatra by providing assistance to responders and affected residents, as well as operational support for firefighting in affected areas. The effort forms part of the company’s commitment to disaster response, public safety and the protection of operational facilities near affected areas.
As humanitarian support, Pertagas provided food-supplement packages and personal protective equipment (PPE) to the South Sumatra Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD). The supplies were selected according to the agency’s stated needs to support disaster response and meet the requirements of personnel in the field. They were handed over at Post 4 in Kertapati, at the Kertapati Subdistrict Office on Sriwijaya Raya Street, Palembang, on Friday, 16 October 2026.
The handover was attended by Kertapati Subdistrict Head Rifandi Putra, representatives of the South Sumatra BPBD, and members of the Indonesian Military (TNI), National Police and community volunteer groups involved in the fire response.
The food-supplement packages included fresh milk, 350ml packaged refreshments, bottled water, biscuits and instant noodles. They are intended to help meet food and drink needs and sustain the strength of responders and volunteers working in the field.
Pertagas also supplied PPE, including KN95 masks, protective goggles, cut-resistant gloves, and disposable health and medical equipment as required for the response. The support is expected to help responders work more safely amid smoke and fire-affected conditions.
Other supplies included filter cartridges, components used in certain filtration devices to help remove particles and contaminants. Their use depends on the type of device and the protection required in the field.
In addition to providing logistics, Pertagas has directly supported firefighting in the Cambai area by deploying its Emergency Response Team and company fire engine. The operational assistance is intended to help tackle fires on the ground, with personnel safety and coordination with relevant parties remaining priorities.
The fire response involves Pertagas OSSA’s Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) and Emergency Response teams, which are coordinating with external parties including the BPBD, the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), Manggala Agni, other companies and the local forest-fire task force. The cross-agency and business-sector collaboration aims to speed up firefighting, strengthen coordination on the ground and prevent fires from spreading and threatening operational facilities.
Pertagas has also provided food supplements to residents living near the company’s pipeline route who have been affected by smoke. Fresh milk and packaged refreshments were distributed to help meet residents’ needs during the emergency. Residents also received reusable half-face respirators and protective goggles to help reduce exposure to smoke and airborne particles.
Dwi Zadine, a representative of the South Sumatra BPBD, said: “We greatly appreciate and are grateful for PT Pertamina Gas (Pertagas)’s tangible support in tackling forest and land fires in our region. Logistical assistance in the form of food supplements and personal protective equipment is crucial to sustaining the strength and protecting the safety of joint response teams in the field from exposure to dense smoke.”
Zadine added that the direct deployment of Pertagas’s Emergency Response Team and fire engines demonstrated that cross-sector collaboration between government and business was key to accelerating firefighting and protecting the public and the environment in South Sumatra.
Pertagas Corporate Secretary Sulthani Adil Mangatur said the company was committed to supporting efforts to tackle forest and land fires, particularly in South Sumatra, through humanitarian assistance, operational support and coordination among stakeholders.
“Responding to forest and land fires requires collaboration among many parties, including the government, firefighters, security personnel, volunteers and businesses. Pertagas is seeking to play its part by providing food supplements and PPE, as well as deploying its Emergency Response Team and company fire engine to help tackle fires in the Palembang area,” Sulthani said.
He added that Pertagas was also focusing on residents near its pipeline routes who had been affected by smoke. Providing for basic needs and supplying personal protection for residents formed part of the company’s concern for the safety and health of people living near its operational areas.
“Pertagas will continue to coordinate with relevant parties and monitor developments on the ground so that its support can be adjusted to needs. At the same time, we will maintain the reliability of our infrastructure and gas supplies for industrial customers, MSMEs and households,” Sulthani added.
Through emergency-response coordination, social assistance and public protection, Pertagas reaffirmed its commitment to contributing to disaster response and supporting the recovery of affected communities. The commitment forms part of its ongoing Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) programme and its role as an integrated energy infrastructure company in Indonesia.
