Pertagas Promotes Waste Management and Food Security in Pamulang
PT Pertamina Gas (Pertagas), an affiliate of Subholding Gas Pertamina, distributed aid in the form of a cultivator machine to the Flamboyan Reduce, Reuse, Recycle Waste Processing Site (TPS3R) and the Flamboyan Women’s Farming Group (KWT) located in Pamulang Barat, South Tangerang City, Banten, on Monday (8/1).
This assistance is part of Pertagas’s efforts to support the green eco-living movement, encompassing waste management, compost production, agricultural land management, urban agriculture development, and strengthening household food security.
As a company that upholds sustainability principles, Pertagas focuses not only on the profit aspect but also considers the people and planet aspects as the foundation for a sustainable business. Through various community empowerment programmes, Pertagas seeks to provide solutions to various issues faced by the community, particularly those within the company’s Ring 1 area.
Pamulang Barat itself is one of the areas crossed by Pertagas’s gas pipeline network, which stretches throughout the West Java region, from Cirebon to Cilegon, as a national energy distribution route. The presence of this programme represents a tangible contribution from the company to the communities surrounding its operational areas.
Currently, TPS3R Flamboyan, comprising 18 members, actively manages waste from around 350 households in a residential complex near the site. Activities include waste transportation, sorting economically valuable waste, compost production, and managing agricultural land using self-produced compost.
These agricultural activities are jointly managed by 10 members of the Flamboyan Women’s Farming Group, who utilise approximately 400 square metres of land for food crop cultivation.
In the land management process, from soil loosening to mixing compost fertiliser, considerable effort and time are required. Therefore, the cultivator machine is considered highly beneficial in enhancing the group’s work efficiency.
The assistance was enthusiastically welcomed by the managers of TPS3R and KWT Flamboyan. They consider the cultivator machine a highly relevant need to support farming activities that have been conducted independently.
“We are very grateful to Pertagas for providing the cultivator machine. With this tool, our activities will be more efficient and agricultural productivity can increase,” said TPS3R Flamboyan Chairman, Welly.
KWT Flamboyan Chairwoman, Wiwik Pramukarti Darmadi, added that with this cultivator tool, KWT members can be more productive and more enthusiastic in managing agriculture.
“This assistance is very beneficial in supporting agricultural activities while increasing yields and the welfare of group members. The results can also be enjoyed by local residents through the vegetables we plant, harvest, right to their own kitchens,” she said.
The cultivator machine assistance was handed over directly by Pertamina Gas’s Head of External Relations for the East Region, Muhammad Putra Dewanto. The machine is expected to save energy, effort, and time in land management, while accelerating the planting period so that the group’s agricultural productivity can increase.
“As a sustainability-oriented company, communities like this are our target to support their positive activities. Through this collaboration, we hope to provide benefits to more people in supporting the green eco-living movement in Pamulang,” said Putra.
Through synergy between the company and the community, Pertagas hopes this programme can strengthen community-based environmental management while encouraging the creation of sustainable food security at the grassroots level.
