Pertagas Prepares to Distribute Industrial Gas in West Java via Cisem II

PT Pertamina Gas (Pertagas), a subsidiary of PT PGN (Persero), is preparing to distribute gas to meet demand in the West Java region. The scheme utilises state infrastructure being pushed for integration from Sumatra to East Java, including the Cirebon-Semarang (Cisem) Phase II gas transmission pipeline project.

Corporate Secretary of Pertagas, Sulthani Adil Mangatur, explained that the entire transmission pipeline network from Sumatra to East Java is now connected. He stated the company is ready to operate the infrastructure as a connector for national energy distribution from surplus points to demand centres.

‘The pipes themselves are now all connected and integrated, so we can confirm that the natural gas transmission pipeline infrastructure is now linked from central Sumatra through to the eastern part of Java,’ he said during a visit to the Tegalgede Compressor Station in Cikarang on Wednesday.

The Cisem II pipeline, which connects Batang to Kandang Haur Timur, is positioned as one of the gas distribution infrastructures in Java. With this connection, Pertagas has the operational flexibility to channel excess gas volumes from oil and gas blocks in East Java to industrial centres in West Java and Banten.

‘In essence, now that Cisem is connected and everything is integrated, the excess gas from East Java can be channelled to West Java, and ultimately the shortage in demand can be met with that supply,’ he added.

To ensure smooth distribution, Pertagas is optimising the performance of the Tegalgede Compressor Station, which has a total capacity of 350 MMSCFD. The facility is equipped with four compressor units that maintain stable gas flow pressure for distribution to various sectors, including power plants, fertiliser factories, and household customers.

‘Regarding capacity, this compressor station has a total pipe capacity of around 350, and we have four compressors, each at 70, so we can still reach 90 percent of that pipe capacity,’ he noted.

Sulthani emphasised that the company acts as a network operator ready to facilitate any gas owner to use the national gas pipeline infrastructure. The company is committed to maintaining the reliability of transmission facilities to ensure energy availability for industry without daily supply disruptions.
