Pertagas Declares Readiness to Support 3 kg CNG as LPG Substitute

PT Pertamina Gas (Pertagas) has declared its readiness to support the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources’ plan to implement 3 kg Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) as a substitute for Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG). Corporate Secretary Sulthani Adil Mangatur stated that the company is prepared to contribute if called upon. “In principle, if we are asked to participate, we are ready to support,” Sulthani said when met at the Tegalgede District Gas Compressor Station in South Cikarang, West Java, on Wednesday. One form of support Pertagas is ready to provide is supporting infrastructure. For instance, he continued, if the CNG distribution concept involves specific gas compression stations, Pertagas is prepared to contribute. Furthermore, Sulthani noted that Pertagas can play a role if infrastructure is needed to channel the CNG gas supply to certain station points. However, Sulthani conveyed that the company is still awaiting a decision from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, specifically the Directorate General of Oil and Gas, regarding the business mechanism and distribution concept for CNG. “We will see what the government decides,” Sulthani remarked. CNG is not a new technology, as it has been used in the hotel, restaurant, and café sector, as well as in the Free Nutritious Meals programme. However, its utilisation has so far been limited to large-capacity cylinders above 10 to 20 kilograms.
