Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - PT Pertamina Gas (Pertagas) has revealed several challenges faced in operating its gas distribution business, particularly amid the increasing national energy needs. Pertagas CEO Indra Sembiring stated that the primary challenges stem from infrastructure, where the company must ensure existing infrastructure operates reliably. “This means all the molecules or materials we distribute must be kept in optimal condition,” Indra said during the CNBC Indonesia Energy Corner event on Friday (8/5/2026). To address this, the company has developed a system to maintain facility integrity, namely AIMS (Asset Integrity Management System). Through this system, Pertagas aims to preserve the reliability, availability, and readiness of facilities to operate optimally. In addition to infrastructure challenges, Pertagas also faces issues of imbalance between gas supply and demand in several regions. To tackle this, Pertagas continues to seek various breakthroughs to ensure gas needs in high-demand areas are met. “We must find breakthroughs to meet this demand. This can be through our existing facilities, via pipelines or beyond pipelines. And we already have the facilities and capabilities to do that,” he said.
