Persis: The Killing of TNI Personnel by Israel in Lebanon Becomes a Momentum to Reassess Indonesia's Position in the Board of Peace
Israel has killed several TNI personnel in Lebanon who were part of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) to maintain peace. This incident, according to Ustadz Arip Rahman, Chairman of the Foreign Relations Working Field of the Persis Central Leadership, serves as a moment for the Indonesian government to learn and reaffirm its position in the Board of Peace (BoP). Ustadz Arip stated that regarding Indonesia’s participation in the BoP, there have been many voices calling for Indonesia to exit the BoP. “It is hoped that this is an opportunity for Indonesia to prove itself, especially to Donald Trump and his supporters, so that even if Indonesia continues in the BoP, it should not fail to play a role,” said Ustadz Arip to Republika on Tuesday (31/3/2026). He emphasised that Indonesia should not send peacekeeping troops to Rafah without guaranteed safety. What happened in Lebanon—the death of TNI personnel—must not occur when TNI is sent to Rafah, Palestine. Therefore, the incident affecting the TNI in Lebanon serves as a lesson for the Indonesian government to rethink plans to send troops to Palestine. “I think this (the killing of TNI in Lebanon by Israel) is a very significant lesson for reconsidering the deployment of TNI troops to Palestine,” said Ustadz Arip. Ustadz Arip expressed that, God willing, President Prabowo Subianto is very wise. President Prabowo will surely listen to voices from the public, especially from Islamic mass organisations. He reiterated that what befell the TNI in Lebanon should not happen to the TNI when sent to Palestine. Thus, what occurred in Lebanon becomes a valuable lesson for Indonesia. Protection for the TNI in Lebanon and, if sent to Palestine in the future, must be truly ensured.
