Persiku Kudus in Turmoil: Stadium Redevelopment and Majority-Share Sale

As the 2026/2027 Liga Championship season approaches, Kudus-based club Persiku Kudus, nicknamed Laskar Macan Muria, is beset by internal turmoil. The team faces the reality of becoming a nomadic club due to the planned revitalisation of the Wergu Wetan Stadium, which will be demolished and rebuilt, with construction expected to take up to a year. This obliges Persiku to seek a temporary base outside the city.

Several stadium options being considered include Moch Soebroto Stadium in Magelang, Pakansari Stadium in Cibinong, Jatidiri Stadium in Semarang, and Sriwedari Stadium in Solo. To date, management has not yet finalised the location of the temporary home.

Krisna Andrian, head of the Macan Muria Supporters (SMM), known as Cepot, hopes the management will keep the team in Central Java to facilitate direct support from fans. He made the remarks after a meeting with Kudus Regent Sam’ani Intakoris.

Beyond infrastructure, the management under PT Relasi Sport Muria Indonesia (RESMI) stunned observers by announcing plans to sell a majority of the club’s shares. The move is intended to enable more professional management in the future.

Abdul Fuad Amirul, Chief Executive Officer of RESMI, acknowledged that the management felt unable to oversee the team comprehensively after failing to break into the top three to five last season. ‘We want to sell part of the shares to experienced investors,’ he said.

Although the exact percentage and value of shares to be sold are awaiting approval from the General Meeting of Shareholders (RUPS), Fuad confirmed that talks with several national investors have been conducted intensively. ‘We cannot disclose the identities yet because there is no official signature, but everything should be completed within two months. We hope that with the entry of new investors, Persiku can compete more strongly and achieve success,’ he added.

It is noted that several figures currently own shares in Persiku Kudus, though not as majority holders, including cleric Gus Miftah and former Kudus Regent Hasan Chabibie. The ownership transition is expected to be a turning point for Laskar Macan Muria’s resurgence on the national stage. (as/e-4)
