Persib Bandung on the Verge of Championship Title
KOMPAS.com - Persib Bandung will be on the verge of winning the championship if they win against PSM and Borneo FC Samarinda loses to Persijap Jepara in week 33 of the 2025-2026 Super League.
The match between PSM and Persib is scheduled for Sunday (17/5/2026) at the BJ Habibie Stadium, Parepare, South Sulawesi, at 7:00 PM WIB.
The Persib squad is determined to complete their championship mission to make Bandung celebrate again this season.
The city of Bandung has been a sea of blue in the last two seasons thanks to Persib’s success in winning back-to-back championships.
Persib assistant coach, Igor Tolic, wants to make the city of Bandung turn blue for the third time in a row.
In the match against PSM, Tolic will be tasked with replacing the role of Persib head coach, Bojan Hodak.
Hodak will be absent from this match due to an accumulation of yellow cards. He is also returning to Croatia to attend his mother’s funeral.
The Bandung team will also be without two foreign players, Federico Barba and Luciano Guaycochea, at PSM’s headquarters. Both are serving suspensions due to accumulated yellow cards.
“We are playing to win the league. So, whoever goes on the field later will give 100 percent of their ability and we will do our best, hopefully we can win,” said Tolic.
Putros wants to end the season sweetly at Persib before focusing on the 2026 World Cup with the Iraqi national team.
“We have to be able to take a big step. So, yes, our focus right now is on this match, hopefully we can complete (the championship mission) in Bandung,” said Putros.
According to Putros, the absence of head coach Bojan Hodak is not a reason for the team not to perform at their best.
Putros also doesn’t care about Persib’s poor record when playing at the BJ Habibie Stadium.
“We have spent this week preparing with the coach, I think all the players now know what they have to do, know the tactics for later. So, in my opinion that won’t be a problem (without Hodak),” said Putros.
