Persib Bandung Championship Celebrations Claim Two Lives in Alcohol-Linked Accidents

Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan revealed two fatalities during the recent celebrations of Persib Bandung’s championship victory in the city.

Farhan stated that the second victim was found overnight following the initial report of the first casualty. He noted that traffic accidents linked to alcohol consumption were a key concern.

“Another fatality was discovered last night due to a traffic accident involving alcohol,” Farhan told reporters on Monday, 25 May 2026.

The Bandung city government also reported numerous empty alcohol bottles collected during the celebrations, amounting to a full pickup truck’s worth.

In response, Farhan confirmed plans for a large-scale crackdown on illegal alcohol distribution in collaboration with the police.

“We will conduct thorough alcohol raids as the consequences have been severe,” he said.

Farhan assured there would be no more large-scale Persib celebration events in the near future, citing security concerns and ongoing preparations for the President’s upcoming visit.

“The city will no longer host crowded Persib events,” he added.

Meanwhile, the championship trophy is temporarily stored at Bandung City Hall for two days to allow city officials who missed the celebrations to take photos with it.

The festivities have also left significant damage to the city, with waste volumes increasing by 10% – approximately 50 tonnes – over two days.

Authorities found many intoxicated residents asleep on streets and in parks, and around 35 park locations suffered damage due to the crowds.

“We patrolled all night to disperse lingering celebrations and clean the streets. Nearly all parks are damaged and are now being repaired,” Farhan said.

Despite the issues, Farhan considered this year’s championship celebration one of Bandung’s largest.
