He admitted that the result was painful, especially since PSM has often suffered narrow defeats in recent matches.
“We often lose 1-0 or 2-1. This is painful, but we have to keep moving forward because there are still matches to come,” said Tomas in a press conference after the match.
According to him, tactically the team already understands Persebaya’s playing pattern and the composition of the players who were fielded, so they should have been able to anticipate the opponent. Tomas pointed out that one goal made the difference in the match, while his team had to go home without points.
He also mentioned PSM’s performance in the last 10 matches in the BRI Super League, which only resulted in one win, which he believes is closely related to effectiveness in the attacking line.
In the match against Persebaya, PSM recorded 40 touches in the penalty box and released 12 shots, but many opportunities were wasted due to poor final decisions.
“Our problem is not in defense. The biggest challenge is creating clear chances and turning them into goals,” he said.
Tomas added that the club management has provided support by adding players to improve the depth and balance of the squad. He emphasized that the team now has more options, so the next focus is to convert opportunities into points.
Meanwhile, PSM player Luka Cumic admitted that his team did not perform optimally in the first half. He said the team needs more energy and pressure from the start of the match.
