Perry Warjiyo Resigns as Bank Indonesia Governor, Destry Damayanti Appointed Acting Governor
The government has announced the resignation of Perry Warjiyo from his position as Governor of Bank Indonesia, which he formally submitted to the government on Sunday, 26 July 2026. During a press conference at the Bank Indonesia building, Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi stated that the position of BI Governor will temporarily be filled by Senior Deputy Governor Destry Damayanti. “As of yesterday, we officially received the BI Governor’s resignation letter addressed to the President,” Prasetyo said at the press conference in Jakarta on Monday, 27 July 2026. He confirmed that the government will promptly follow up on Perry’s resignation letter by issuing a related decree. “In accordance with the mechanism, a presidential decree and notification will be issued, along with an honourable discharge from the Governor of Bank Indonesia,” Prasetyo stated. He added that under the Bank Indonesia Law, the position of BI Governor will be transferred to the Senior Deputy Governor. “Subsequently, the position of Governor of Bank Indonesia will automatically be held by the Senior Deputy Governor, who will then carry out all duties as the acting governor. The Senior Deputy Governor in question is Ibu Destry Damayanti,” he said. On the same occasion, Destry affirmed that her role as BI Governor is solely as an acting official, in line with the BI Law. “As we have previously stated, this is a temporary acting governor,” she said.
