Perry Resigns, Destry Assures BI Duties Continue Uninterrupted
Bank Indonesia (BI) acting Governor Destry Damayanti has stressed that the central bank will continue to carry out its duties collectively and collegially, following Perry Warjiyo’s statement of resignation from his post. This was conveyed during a press conference on Monday morning (27/7/2026).
“Bank Indonesia will always ensure the continuity of its duties and authority to achieve rupiah exchange rate stability, maintain payment system stability, and help safeguard the financial system, in order to support sustainable economic growth,” Destry explained.
With Perry Warjiyo’s resignation, in accordance with the Bank Indonesia Law, Destry has been appointed as the acting Governor of BI.
“In connection with the voluntary resignation of Mr Perry Warjiyo from the position of BI Governor for personal reasons on 25 July 2026, in accordance with Article 48 paragraph 1 (a) of Law No. 23 of 1999 concerning Bank Indonesia, as amended several times, most recently by Law No. 4 of 2026 concerning the Development and Strengthening of the Financial Sector, the board of governors at the Board of Governors Meeting on 26 July 2026 appointed Senior Deputy Governor Destry Damayanti as acting Governor,” Destry stated.
Destry only noted that Perry Warjiyo’s resignation was voluntary and for personal reasons on 25 July 2026. Perry appeared to be absent from the press conference. A CNBC Indonesia source said the reason for Perry’s resignation was due to health factors. CNBC Indonesia attempted to contact Perry Warjiyo, but his mobile phone was inactive.
