Perry Resigns as BI Governor, Palace Yet to Submit Replacement to DPR
Perry Warjiyo has officially resigned from his position as Governor of Bank Indonesia (BI) as of 25 July 2026. His resignation was submitted via a letter to President Prabowo Subianto.
This was conveyed by Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi in a press conference this morning at the BI office in Jakarta on Monday (27/7/2026). In accordance with the Bank Indonesia Law, Deputy Governor Destry Damayanti has been directly selected to serve as the acting Governor of BI.
“Subsequently, the position of Governor of Bank Indonesia will automatically be filled by the Senior Deputy Governor, who will carry out all duties as the acting governor. The Senior Deputy Governor in question is Ibu Destry Damayanti,” Prasetyo Hadi stated during the press conference.
Regarding the definitive candidate, Prasetyo said the President has not yet submitted a nominee. This is because the resignation letter was only received a day prior.
“It was only yesterday. And the President has not, in just one day, been able to immediately propose a definitive candidate. And it so happens that the BI Law stipulates that the vacancy can be automatically filled by the Acting Governor,” he explained.
According to Prasetyo, the government will follow the applicable procedures. Thus, the nomination for the vacant position will be made by the President by sending a letter to the House of Representatives (DPR).
Destry Damayanti, as the acting BI Governor, stated that the central bank will adhere to the existing regulations, namely Article 40 of the Bank Indonesia Law. In this article, she noted, there are criteria that must be met by the deputy governor.
Furthermore, BI will follow Article 42 concerning the mechanism for selecting deputy governors.
“Wherein the candidate will be proposed and appointed by the President with the approval of the DPR, so that is the subsequent process,” she said.
She also clarified that her position is only as acting governor until a definitive official is appointed.
