Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Library (Perpusnas) has launched the theme and logo for its 46th anniversary, championing the spirit of strengthening literacy for a dignified nation.

Perpusnas Chief Secretary Joko Santoso stated at a press conference in Jakarta on Monday that the theme “46 Years Nurturing the Repository, Dignifying the Nation” underscores sustainable knowledge management as the foundation for Indonesia’s human resource development.

This aims to foster literacy growth, ultimately shaping an intelligent and dignified nation.

“Entering its 46th year, Perpusnas adopts a theme emphasising two aspects: nurturing the nation’s intellectual heritage and positioning literacy as a driver for enhancing human resource quality. The launched logo represents transformation, adaptation, and collaboration in facing future challenges,” he said.

He emphasised that amid efficiency policies, Perpusnas ensures optimal public services through sharpened priorities and strengthened service quality, both physical and digital.

“In the midst of national policy dynamics, Perpusnas remains adaptively present, maintaining service quality and expanding literacy’s impact to reach all societal layers,” he added.

He further noted that the launch of the theme and logo is not merely ceremonial but a reaffirmation of the institution’s strategic direction and Perpusnas’s commitment to strengthening literacy as the foundation for an advanced, competitive, and beneficial Indonesian development.

“From 4 to 29 May 2026, the public can witness the institution’s journey and strategic achievements through conventional and virtual exhibitions. Public education is further strengthened with hybrid discussions,” he said.

Perpusnas will also provide direct services related to accreditation, certification, RDA processing, and standard numbering services such as ISBN and ISSN.

As part of the national commitment, Perpusnas continues to strengthen various literacy programmes that directly impact society. These include the Community Literacy Volunteer programme, Quality Reading Material Assistance, Thematic Literacy Real Work Lecture (KKN), and library development in People’s Schools, which tangibly expand knowledge access to various societal layers.

“Government policies on budget efficiency do not undermine Perpusnas’s focus on strengthening services that are indeed public rights. Thus, the reinforcement of literacy programmes is formed through collaborations and partnerships already extensively conducted with ministries/institutions/regions,” said Deputy for Library Human Resource Development Adin Bondar.

The 46th Perpusnas Anniversary logo is designed to represent the harmony of knowledge. The logo, created by Perpusnas Librarian Prakas Agrestian, integrates visual elements reflecting the institution’s journey, openness of information access, and literacy growth.

The number 46 symbolises Perpusnas’s consistency in building a reading culture, while the open book shape becomes a symbol of inclusive knowledge access, with blue and green colours reflecting trust, growth, and sustainability.

“It is hoped that this logo is not only an identity but also a unifying spirit for efforts to strengthen community literacy culture. This is because the celebration is not only Perpusnas’s but belongs to all of us who believe that literacy can advance the nation,” said Prakas.

The launch of the theme and logo serves as the initial marker for the series of 46th Perpusnas Anniversary commemorations, peaking on 17 May 2026, coinciding with National Book Day, which reaffirms the importance of literacy as the foundation for Indonesia’s human resource development.
