Perplexity Personal Computer Now Available for Mac Users

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Perplexity has just announced the arrival of Perplexity’s Personal Computer as the company’s response to OpenClaw and other local AI agents, and the service is now available for Mac users through a desktop application. Reported by TechCrunch on Thursday (7/5) local time, Perplexity’s Personal Computer is an extension of their service named Perplexity Computer. Perplexity’s Personal Computer itself is a cloud-based AI agent designed to be a versatile “digital worker” capable of independently performing a variety of tasks. This service not only provides a chatbot, but the AI can access and operate computer interfaces, create workflows, and manage files. The purpose of this application’s launch is actually to capitalise on the increasing demand for local AI agents, popularised by OpenClaw, which can perform tasks on behalf of users. In fact, Perplexity’s Personal Computer application was introduced last month, but was limited to Perplexity Max subscribers and required a waiting list. However, the company now states that anyone using a Mac can try the software as part of the new Perplexity Mac application. It should be noted, however, that the service still requires a Pro or Max subscription. When used, the software can work with local files, native Mac applications, and operate on the web. The software can also organise various tools and files, use over 400 connectors, and leverage the user’s personal context, all within a secure development environment on Perplexity’s servers. Designed to run autonomous agents on always-on devices like the Mac Mini, Personal Computer can even be accessed remotely via the user’s iPhone, where users can initiate tasks or approve requests from their device. Perplexity states that the tool can be used for all kinds of work, such as handling spreadsheets, documents, and projects with various materials. Because the tool can work across applications, the agent can perform tasks like comparing two files from different applications or taking notes from one application to create a draft in another. As a result of its general availability, Perplexity says that their legacy application will have support discontinued on Mac in the coming weeks so that the team can focus on the Personal Computer application.
