Perplexing law in Indonesia
Perplexing law in Indonesia
From Media Indonesia
The law in Indonesia makes me confused. Though I am not a
lawyer, I would suggest that a study be conducted to compare
local law enforcement with the conditions in advanced democratic
countries. Money seems to solve all cases in Indonesia, thus
rendering invalid the current rules.
It makes me wonder whether appeals can be filed against all
court decisions and whether there is any time limit, such as six
months, for an appeal settlement. The same is true of requests
for judicial reviews.
Reports on the appeals and review requests now piling up raise
the question whether these cases can be settled, which is even
worse if no deadlines are set. After verdicts are made, some
convicts must be jailed directly while others are still allowed
go free.
Let us hope all the questions can be answered without awaiting
a new government. Everything connected with law should proceed
more professionally, strictly and fairly, especially in the
justice ministry, the Attorney General's Office, the police, the
Supreme Court and the Constitutional Court.
