Perpetrators of Acid Attack on KontraS Activist Said to Be Trained, Tracked Victim Until Remaining Calm During Attack

Jakarta – Police suspect that four perpetrators using two motorcycles were involved in an acid attack against Andrie Yunus (27), Vice-Coordinator of the Commission for the Disappeared and Victims of Violence (KontraS).

The Director of General Criminal Investigation (Direskrimum) of Metro Jaya Police, Kombes Pol Iman Imanuddin, stated that the perpetrators appeared calm whilst carrying out their attack.

“Over several days we conducted digital analysis, and we observed that these perpetrators clearly demonstrated composure in their movements from one point to another in the days leading up to the incident,” he said on Monday, 16 March 2026.

A joint task force from police authorities managed to obtain at least 86 CCTV points, which have now been seized for analysis of the perpetrators’ movements and to uncover the acid attack case.

“The suspected perpetrators had been tracking the victim’s movements since before the incident. The perpetrators travelled from the South Jakarta area to an initial gathering point on Jalan Merdeka Timur near Gambir Station,” said Iman.

Through CCTV footage, the perpetrators then proceeded along Jalan Ir. H. Djuanda, Jalan Merdeka Barat, Tugu Tani and towards the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI) office.

“From YLBHI, the perpetrators followed the victim after the event concluded. The victim did not go directly to the incident location but stopped to refuel at Cikini Raya, which was also followed by the perpetrators,” said Iman.

Whilst the victim was refuelling, Iman continued, the perpetrators were also observed near the petrol station and waited for the victim near KFC Cikini.

“Allegedly, four perpetrators using two motorcycles waited for the victim at KFC Cikini,” said Iman.

After waiting for the victim, the perpetrators then resumed following until reaching the incident location on Jalan Salemba I, Senen, Central Jakarta.

“The incident occurred at 23:37 WIB on Jalan Salemba I at the intersection with Jalan Talang, where the crime took place,” said Iman.

Previously, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo stated that President Prabowo Subianto has ordered a thorough investigation of the alleged acid attack on KontraS activist Andrie Yunus to be conducted professionally, transparently and using scientific investigative methods.
