Police have confirmed that the perpetrator of the sexual harassment against JSLP (20), the woman who attempted suicide in front of the Merdeka Palace gates in Central Jakarta, is a civil servant (ASN). The perpetrator married JSLP, and the two are currently still legally husband and wife. “The perpetrator is indeed an ASN in Toli-Toli (Central Sulawesi),” said the Head of the Women’s and Children’s Protection and Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (PPA and PPO), Metro Jakarta Central Police Resort, Kompol Rita Oktavia, when contacted by Kompas.com on Wednesday (25/3/2026). Previously, JSLP became a victim of sexual harassment in 2023 in Central Jakarta. At that time, JSLP reported the case to the Metro Jakarta Central Police Resort. However, the perpetrator’s family and JSLP later agreed to marry them. The marriage took place in the perpetrator’s hometown of Tegal, Central Java. Therefore, the status of the sexual harassment report against JSLP was legally dismissed. “The perpetrator is from Tegal, lives in Jakarta. He is an ASN in Toli-Toli,” Rita revealed. JSLP is said to be suffering from mental health issues due to depression. She has become a patient at Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (RSCM). “When they got married and were taken to Toli-Toli, we lost contact. We suspected they were living happily. Then suddenly she (JSLP) returned to Jakarta,” Rita said. “At the moment, we can’t question her because her condition doesn’t allow us to gather information from the victim,” she explained. Rita also confirmed that after marriage, JSLP and the perpetrator do not yet have children. Furthermore, Rita confirmed that JSLP and the perpetrator had known each other before the sexual harassment occurred. She also confirmed that the two had been friends. “It wasn’t a case of just meeting and then the incident (harassment) happening. They already knew each other. Friends,” she said.
