Perpetrator of Sexual Assault on Primary School Student in East Nusa Tenggara Sentenced to 11 Years Imprisonment
The District Court in Larantuka has handed down a sentence of 11 years imprisonment against NI (41 years old), who has been found guilty of committing sexual assault and violence against MKK (11 years old), a minor, in Waiwuring Village, East Flores, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).
The punishment imposed is more severe than the initial prosecution’s recommendation of 8 years and 6 months imprisonment. The verdict was read by the Head of the Judicial Panel Mohamad Juliandri Rahman, alongside two panel judges Samuel Aprianto and Reja El Hakim.
“The court finds that the defendant has been proven to have committed violence against the victim who was still a minor, resulting in quite serious physical injuries,” stated the judge in the ruling delivered on Tuesday, 17 March.
The judicial panel determined that the defendant’s conduct has had a substantial impact on the child’s development, given that the trauma experienced has the potential to affect the victim’s future. Consequently, the court deemed a heavier sentence necessary to provide justice to the victim.
“This serves as a warning so that similar incidents do not recur in the future,” the judge stated emphatically.
The incident previously occurred in Waiwuring Village on Tuesday, 9 September 2025. As a result of the incident, the victim sustained injuries causing a wound to the neck as well as bleeding in the eye area due to strangulation.
The incident began when the victim’s mother instructed her to shop at a local kiosk. On the return journey, the victim encountered the perpetrator, who suddenly dragged her into an unoccupied house. Before committing sexual abuse, the victim was strangled and her mouth was covered, resulting in serious injuries and bleeding.
