Perpetrator of Baby Disposal in Depok Arrested, Revealed to Be the Mother

The body of a newborn baby boy was found in a rubbish bin on Jalan Raya Muchtar, Sawangan, Depok. The mother has been taken into custody.

“For the abortion or discovery of the baby’s body in Sawangan, we have secured the perpetrator,” said AKBP Made Gede Oka Utama, Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Depok Metro Police, when contacted by reporters on Thursday (13/8/2026).

AKBP Made stated that the perpetrator is the biological mother of the victim. “We have secured the baby’s mother,” he explained.

Made could not yet detail the reasons why the perpetrator disposed of the baby. The suspect is currently still undergoing police questioning.

The baby’s body, wrapped in red plastic, was discovered on Tuesday (11/8) at 07.20 Western Indonesia Time. The discovery began when a witness was sorting through plastic bottles in the bin.

“When the witness opened the bin, they lifted a large red plastic bag that felt rather heavy. Upon opening it, the witness saw the body of a baby boy who was not moving and had died,” he said.

The witness then contacted a security officer. After checking, the security officer informed Bhabinkamtibmas Aiptu Popy Satria of the finding. The incident was subsequently reported to the Bojongsari Police Station duty officer by the Sawangan Baru Sub-district Community Guidance Officer. Police officers immediately went to the crime scene.

“Besides the baby’s body, a grey shirt, a blue shopping bag, and a detergent packaging were found near the baby’s feet,” he added.
