Permits for 46 buses temporarily revoked

JAKARTA (JP): The city land transportation control agency has temporarily revoked the operational licenses of 46 public buses in East Jakarta for repeatedly violating traffic regulations.

Head of the agency's Transportation Control Department Herman Tonglo Langi said on Tuesday that the 46 buses had breached the regulations by forcing passengers to get off the buses before reaching their final destinations.

"The agency has warned them, but they simply ignored the warning. Therefore we decided to revoke the permits for two weeks," Herman said yesterday, adding that the punishment was handed down on July 17.

Herman said that the decision was made based on reports from two of the agency's five branch offices in East Jakarta and West Jakarta.

"The East Jakarta branch reported 95 public vehicles which had violated traffic regulations, while the West Jakarta branch reported six vehicles," Herman said, adding that the other three branch offices have not yet submitted their reports.

"Forcing passengers to get off the buses before their final destinations is disastrous," Herman said.

Herman said that the agency would continue to take stern actions against disobedient drivers by revoking their operational licenses.(yns)
