Bandung Zoo will be closed during the 2026 Eid holiday period. Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan stated that the decision was made following the revocation of the conservation institution’s permit by the Indonesian Ministry of Forestry through Ministerial Decree Number 107 of 2026. “We understand that Bandung Zoo is one of the tourist destinations for residents and visitors. However, its permit has now been revoked by the central government, so operations cannot resume until all administrative and legal processes are completed,” said Farhan, as quoted from Antara on Saturday (21/3/2026). He emphasised that the Bandung City Government will not temporarily open the zoo after Eid until all requirements are met. “We will not open the zoo temporarily after Eid. Everything must comply with the rules. Animal safety, good management, and legal certainty are the top priorities,” said Farhan. In response, the Bandung City Government immediately secured regional assets, including sealing the city-owned land used as the zoo location on 5 February 2026. On the same day, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Directorate General of Natural Resources and Ecosystem Conservation (KSDAE) of the Ministry of Forestry and the Bandung City Government regarding animal rescue and worker handling. Farhan assured that the city government will comply with all applicable provisions before reopening the area to the public. According to him, operations of Bandung Zoo will only resume after a new management partner is selected through a transparent tender mechanism in accordance with legislation. “If a new manager is later selected through an official process and in accordance with the rules, then Bandung Zoo can reopen to the public with better management,” he said.
