Permanent Sekolah Rakyat in Katingan Ready to Accommodate More Than 1,000 Students
This is part of around 100 Sekolah Rakyat sites where permanent buildings are being constructed. The building will accommodate 1,000 students at SD, SMP, and SMA levels. Gus Ipul stressed that enrolment in Sekolah Rakyat will continue to rise each year. If the initial number of students is around 15,000, this year the target is more than 30,000 students and around 60,000 students next year. "Thus by 2029 insyaallah, Sekolah Rakyat nationwide will accommodate more than 400,000 students. This is a major project, a collaboration between the central government and local governments," Gus Ipul said. He also praised the Katingan Regency Government for providing the land for development. He extended thanks to the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing and all involved parties. "InsyaAllah this is one of the legacies of the President in implementing Article 34 of the 1945 Constitution," Gus Ipul said. Similarly, Treace Merry, Head of the Work Unit for Implementing Strategic Infrastructure in Central Kalimantan (Kalteng) is optimistic the permanent Sekolah Rakyat in Katingan will be completed by June. "Sekolah Rakyat permanent in Katingan is currently around 51 percent complete. The target is to finish by 20 June. There is no stepping back; we must move forward, stay motivated," Treace said. For information, the permanent Sekolah Rakyat in Katingan is built on an area of 6.28 hectares with building area of 29,800 square metres. The school is designed to have a capacity of up to 1,080 students with 36 classes for the SD, SMP, and SMA levels.
