The government is targeting the construction of permanent housing (huntap) for communities affected by the landslide disaster in North Tapanuli Regency, North Sumatra Province, to be completed in phases and fully finished by June 2026. This acceleration of construction is the government’s main focus, considering that the disaster victims have long been waiting for certainty regarding decent and safe accommodation. Minister of Housing and Human Settlements (PKP) Maruarar Sirait, or Ara, along with the Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) and Chairman of the National Disaster Task Force Tito Karnavian, emphasised that acceleration must be carried out without neglecting building quality. The huntap construction is being carried out through collaboration between the government and Yayasan Buddha Tzu Chi Indonesia. Ara stressed that the construction of huntap is a government priority and must be carried out seriously in accordance with the established standards. She also urged local government and contractors to improve supervision and performance so that the completion target can be achieved. “We want this permanent housing construction to be truly completed well, on time, and of quality. The disaster-affected community has waited too long for certainty of decent housing,” she said on Friday (27/3/2026). As part of the acceleration, the government has set two completion phases. The first phase of 68 house units is targeted to be completed on 5 May 2026 and will be immediately handed over to the community. Meanwhile, the second phase of 35 house units is targeted to be completed by 30 June 2026. On the other hand, Tito asked the North Tapanuli Regency Government to be more serious in overseeing the permanent housing construction. He emphasised the importance of coordination between the local government and contractors to prevent obstacles or delays in the field. Through this acceleration step, the government hopes that all permanent housing construction can be completed soon. Thus, the communities affected by the landslide in North Tapanuli can return to living in safe, decent, and comfortable homes.
