Permadi trial set for July 6
YOGYAKARTA: The authorities have set July 6 as the first day of the trial of popular mystic Permadi Satrio Wiwoho on charges of blasphemy.
The trial is widely expected to draw a huge crowd because of Permadi's popularity and the nature of the controversy.
Lt. Col. Priyono, head of the Yogyakarta military district command, has guaranteed that the trial, to be held in the Sleman District Court, would proceed in a smooth, orderly and safe manner, Antara reported.
"All's clear,.. We've made all the necessary preparations regarding security at the trial," Priyono said.
Permadi has been accused of blasphemy in relation to remarks he made during a seminar at Yogyakarta's Gadjah Mada University last year.
The prominent mystic is currently being held in Wirogunan jail, Yogyakarta, pending the trial.
The Sleman District Court has said that Judges Ismed Ilahoede, Antonius Ramelan and Abdul Wahid Oscar will hear the case. (emb)
