Perum Perhutani’s Kedu Utara Forest Management Unit has strengthened its synergy with local communities through a partnership agreement (PKS) for clove asset utilization, working with the Ngudi Lestari Forest Farmers Group (KTH) as management partners. The initiative aims to optimise non-timber natural resources within Perhutani’s operational area while positively impacting local economic growth around forest regions.

The Perhutani Kedu Utara Administrator explained that the partnership implements the company’s vision of sustainable forest management benefiting communities. The PKS provides clear legal frameworks for both parties in managing clove plants.

“We aim to maximise the benefits from every inch of land and plant assets. Through KTH Ngudi Lestari, communities are directly involved in the production chain, from maintenance to harvest,” he stated in an official release.

Clove is chosen for its stable economic value and high demand in the tobacco and healthcare industries, which is expected to significantly improve farmers’ livelihoods over coming harvest seasons.

Beyond profitability, the agreement includes environmental protection clauses. KTH Ngudi Lestari members have committed to safeguarding forest areas from illegal encroachment and fire threats.

The KTH Ngudi Lestari Chair expressed gratitude for Perhutani’s trust, noting such partnerships have long been awaited by residents to manage land securely and systematically.

Perhutani Kedu Utara hopes this collaboration will create an inclusive forest business ecosystem, with the success of clove management serving as a model for future partnerships in coffee, pine resin, and eco-tourism.

With strong synergy, a harmonious balance between economic, social, and ecological forest functions is anticipated across the Kedu Utara region.

Clove is typically used as dried buds harvested before blooming, serving as a culinary spice and in pharmaceutical industries.
