Perhutani Intensifies Patrols in Indramayu to Anticipate Forest Fires During Dry Season
Perum Perhutani’s Indramayu Forest Management Unit (KPH) is tightening security in the Cikawung forest area, Terisi District, Indramayu Regency. This measure is being taken to anticipate forest and land fires during the current dry season. Security has been intensified through joint patrols involving the Cikawung Forest Management Section (BKPH), Forest Management Resorts (RPH), Territorial Police Officers (Polter), the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), and the Forest Village Community Institution (LMDH) Hutan Makmur. The Head of BKPH Cikawung, Teten, stated that during the large-scale patrol, officers combed a number of fire-prone spots. Officers then installed signboards prohibiting the burning of forest areas in Cikawung. In addition to combing the forest area, officers also checked the feasibility of forest fire control infrastructure and educated residents about the risks of fires during the dry season. “This patrol is a routine agenda. However, we have deliberately increased its intensity to minimise the risk of ecosystem damage due to forest and land fires,” Teten said in a written statement received yesterday. He said his party deliberately involved LMDH Hutan Makmur in the joint patrol. This is because forest security efforts will not run optimally without the support of all elements of the community. “Through this synergy, we hope that the forest area in the BKPH Cikawung working area remains safe, sustainable, and protected from various threats, especially forest and land fires,” Teten said.
