The Indonesian National Banks Association (Perbanas) has stated it respects the decision of Perry Warjiyo to resign from his position as Governor of Bank Indonesia. Perbanas Chairman Hery Gunardi is optimistic that monetary stability will remain intact. According to Hery, policy continuity and financial system stability are the main foundations for maintaining public and business confidence. Perbanas believes in the strength of the central bank institution and its governance mechanisms despite the leadership transition at Bank Indonesia (BI). “We believe coordination between authorities will continue to run well, so that monetary stability, the payment system, and the national financial system are maintained,” Hery said in a written statement quoted on Tuesday, 28 July 2026. Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi announced Perry Warjiyo’s resignation on Monday, 27 July 2026. Bank Indonesia stated that Perry stepped down voluntarily for personal reasons. Referring to the BI Law, the replacement official automatically falls to the Senior Deputy Governor, Destry Damayanti. Destry will serve as acting governor until a definitive governor is appointed. Regarding this leadership succession, Perbanas fully entrusts the process of appointing a replacement BI Governor to the constitutional mechanism and prevailing laws and regulations. “While believing the government and relevant authorities will appoint the best figure with high credibility and a strong commitment to national economic stability.” Hery said the national banking industry is currently in a solid condition, supported by strong capital, adequate liquidity, and prudent risk management. The Perbanas Chairman, who is also the President Director of PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk, stated that operational activities and services to the public are running normally. Perbanas also urged all market players and the public to prioritise information from official sources and avoid speculation that could affect perceptions of financial sector stability. “Trust is the main asset of the financial system. Therefore, it is important for all stakeholders to give space for the institutional process to proceed according to regulations, while continuing to maintain optimism about Indonesia’s economic fundamentals which remain strong,” Hery said.
