Peradi Proposes Integrity Clause for Investigators in Asset Forfeiture Bill

Deputy Chair of the Peradi National Board, Sutrisno, submitted several proposals regarding the Asset Forfeiture Bill during a meeting with the House of Representatives’ Commission III. He proposed that officials authorised to investigate criminal assets must possess high integrity.

Sutrisno initially highlighted the mentality of law enforcement officers in Indonesia, touching on the practice of abuse of authority by certain individuals. “When we talk about the mentality of our law enforcement officers, we all know that there are many abuses of power that ultimately harm the state and society. In recent months, we have seen many officers whose actions have been very detrimental and have created a public perception that the law does not side with the common people,” Sutrisno said during the meeting at the Parliament Complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Monday.

He therefore expressed hope that this issue would be a focus for Commission III in deliberating the Asset Forfeiture Bill. He also proposed that officials assigned to investigate assets must be of the highest integrity. “Of course, I hope the DPR can act decisively on this Asset Forfeiture Bill. The officials who will be appointed to trace and investigate the personal assets of individuals suspected of acquiring them through criminal proceeds should, in the future, be law enforcement officers with high integrity,” he stated.

Furthermore, Sutrisno urged that investigators must also possess a strong commitment. “They must have a high commitment to carrying out their duties for the interests of the nation and the state,” he added.
