Perhimpunan Advokat Indonesia Profesional (Peradi Profesional) was officially declared as a new forum for advocates nationwide. The declaration took place on Thursday (5 March) at the Kempinski Hotel, Jakarta. The moment was marked with solemnity through a charitable act distributing aid to 1,250 orphans and the underprivileged, and the attendance of renowned preacher Ustaz Das’ad Latif.

Harris Arthur Hedar, the Chairman of Peradi Profesional, emphasised that the organisation is not a rival to existing bodies, but a concrete answer and preventive measure against challenges facing the advocacy and the Indonesian legal sphere.

‘The Peradi Profesional is a professional organisation based on quality, ethics, and character. PERADIPROF is not a competitor but an answer to our collective unease. We are here to ensure that this profession remains dignified and continues to be an officium nobile, a noble profession,’ Harris said in a statement received on Thursday (5 March).

Harris explained that the current state of the legal profession is at a crossroads. Public trust has declined because within the advocacy organisations there has been fragmentation and a tendency for the profession to degenerate into a tool for short-term interests that diminishes the majesty of the profession.

These challenges are becoming more complex with the dynamics of 21st-century digital transformation, which demand fundamental changes in Indonesia’s legal system, such as the emergence of digital platforms and technology-based financing systems creating new legal relationships beyond the conventional Civil Code.

‘The enactment of the new Penal Code and the new Criminal Procedure Code also requires advocates who are not only technically proficient but also ethically mature and with strong social and constitutional responsibilities,’ said the Chair of the Alumni Association of Doctor of Legal Science (IADIH) at Jayabaya University.

Perhimpunan Advokat Indonesia Profesional has a strong intellectual foundation as it was founded by three advocates who are also professors of law: Harris Arthur Hedar, Fauzie Yusuf Hasibuan, and Abdul Latif.

Legally, the organisation’s existence has been recognised by the state through the Minister of Law and Human Rights’ approval No AHU-0000086.AH.01.07 Year 2026. This legal status provides legal certainty for all organisational activities.

‘The arrival of Peradi Profesional is a collective endeavour to restore the vocation of advocacy as the guardian of justice and the guardian of the rationality of law. Peradi Profesional aims to be an integral part of a civilised legal civilisation towards a dignified Indonesia and ensure that every advocate under its umbrella is fully aware of their role as public servants and enforcers of the law in the digital era,’ Harris said.

Moreover, Harris reminded that the nobility of the advocacy profession lies in integrity, social sensitivity, and commitment to justice with humanity. The true existence of an organisation is when its presence directly benefits society. When advocates can feel the suffering of the common people, justice becomes alive, not merely a text in the law.

Attending the declaration were Members of the House of Representatives, Rieke Dyah Pitaloka, and Peradi Profesional leadership. (P-4)
