Peradi Bersatu Responds to Arrest of Roy Suryo and Doctor Tifa

Secretary General of Peradi Bersatu, Ade Darmawan, stated that Roy Suryo and Doctor Tifa were rightfully arrested by the Metro Jaya Regional Police in the case concerning accusations of a fake diploma against Indonesia’s 7th President, Joko Widodo (Jokowi). Peradi Bersatu is one of the parties that reported Roy Suryo in the case.

“What happened is a normal thing. It is not something surprising for us. Because it is indeed not the best thing. But this is what should have happened. So it is different, the police doing their best. But this is what should have been done by the Metro Jaya Regional Police,” Ade said at Metro Jaya Regional Police headquarters on Friday (19/6).

According to him, the arrest of Roy and Tifa was necessary because the potential sentence in the case exceeds five years in prison. “Legally, our Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP) stipulates that detention must be carried out for offences carrying a sentence of over five years. The subjective and objective conditions have been met,” he said.

He appreciated the actions of the Metro Jaya Regional Police in arresting both individuals. He stated that the police had acted independently in handling the case.

Previously, the Director of General Criminal Investigation at Metro Jaya Regional Police, Senior Commissioner Iman Imanuddin, explained that the arrest of Roy and Tifa was part of the process of transferring the suspects and evidence from investigators to the DKI Jakarta High Prosecutor’s Office. The case file has been declared complete by the prosecution.

“Furthermore, to ensure the presence and availability of the suspects during the transfer of suspects and evidence proceeds smoothly, investigators must confirm the suspects’ whereabouts and presence,” Iman said.

Roy and Tifa’s legal counsel, Refly Harun, protested the arrest of his two clients. According to Refly, the case against them is still debatable. “If this were related to, say, a murder case, a corruption case, and so on, it would make sense to be arrested and detained. But this is something debatable, we are still debating whether what Mas Roy and Doctor Tifa did was truly defamation, truly slander?” said Refly.
