Pepabri affirms veterans' dedication to national unity
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Veterans and Warakawuri Association of the TNI and Polri (Pepabri) has reaffirmed its commitment to continuing its service to the nation and state by safeguarding unity, conducive conditions, and the integrity of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI).
Chairman of the Pepabri Central Executive Board, General (Ret) Agum Gumelar, said in Jakarta on Tuesday that retirement does not end one’s service, as the values instilled during a military career remain a guide in community life.
Agum made the remarks at a press conference concerning Pepabri’s 67th anniversary, ahead of the organisation’s commemoration on 12 September 2026 in Surabaya, East Java.
He said Pepabri will continue to weave national unity and cohesion by upholding the fighting spirit and a statesmanlike attitude.
“Reaching the age of 67 is proof of the organisation’s resilience and consistency in accompanying the nation’s journey,” said Agum.
According to him, the spirit of Sapta Marga, the Soldier’s Oath, and Tri Brata instilled during years of service must not cease upon entering retirement.
These values, Agum said, remain a guide for veterans in continuing their dedication to the community and the state.
In order to strengthen this contribution, Pepabri is promoting social activities and community care, including the distribution of social assistance and healthcare services for warakawuri, veterans’ families, and communities in need.
Pepabri is also working to strengthen solidarity and camaraderie among TNI and Polri veterans across Indonesia as part of efforts to preserve unity.
In addition, the organisation is encouraging the passing on of national values to the younger generation, particularly the values of Pancasila and an unyielding spirit.
Agum invited all elements of society to nurture diversity and to place unity above all differences.
Pepabri was founded on 12 September 1959 as a community organisation bringing together TNI veterans, Polri veterans, and warakawuri. The organisation also plays a role in advocating for veterans’ rights and safeguarding the integrity of the NKRI.
