People's tribunal for Buloggate II?
People's tribunal for Buloggate II?
From Koran Tempo
It's really interesting to read Tempo weekly's Nov. 19 and Nov. 25 editions, which deal exhaustively with the "moral integrity" of Akbar Tandjung, chairman of the Golkar Party and House Speaker, now implicated in the Bulog scam, involving Rp 40 billion.
Part of a string of evidence, a receipt published in Tempo is proof that Akbar and his party have been playing tricks.
Unfortunately, what has been disclosed by various mass media, including Tempo, has yet to spur the Attorney General's Office into action. On the contrary, it seems to have been "emasculated" and is legally powerless against the big-wig "cowboys".
No criminal offenses, for example manipulation, carried out by big-wig perpetrators, have been prosecuted under the prevailing law. But the Attorney General's Office, with its rhetoric and empty promises, has only fooled itself. This is a phenomenon that is really a cause for concern.
There is nothing more we can expect from our judiciary for as long as it continues to cause concern. Perhaps, a people's tribunal is the only way to punish and try criminals who have become "viruses" for decades in this republic. Vox populi vox Dei (the voice of the people is the voice of God).
