People's School in North Maluku to be Completed on 20 June 2026
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The construction of the Sekolah Rakyat (SR) in North Maluku is targeted to be completed on 20 June 2026. The North Maluku Provincial Government (Pemprov) together with PT Hutama Karya (Persero) is continuously accelerating the development of this educational facility so that it can soon be utilised by the community. North Maluku Governor Sherly Tjoanda directly inspected the Sekolah Rakyat project site in West Halmahera on Saturday (2/5/2026) to ensure that the construction is proceeding according to plan and the established standards. “Pray that the Sekolah Rakyat construction project runs smoothly and is completed on time. 20 June 2026, all the best,” said Sherly. SR is part of the national priority programme in President Prabowo Subianto’s Asta Cita, which focuses on improving the quality of human resources through inclusive and affordable education. In North Maluku, the Sekolah Rakyat project is being built in West Halmahera and North Halmahera. Both are designed as integrated boarding school complexes that cover primary school, junior high school, up to senior high school levels, complete with dormitories and supporting learning facilities. The construction project in West Halmahera also considers the geographical conditions of North Maluku as an archipelagic region. Challenges in material distribution and access to the project site are being addressed through logistical planning as well as coordination with local government and surrounding communities. Acting Executive Vice President (EVP) Secretary of Hutama Karya Hamdani stated that support from the local government is an important part in accelerating the SR construction in eastern Indonesia. “This support strengthens the synergy between the government, particularly the provincial government together with state-owned enterprises, in realising equitable education in eastern Indonesia. Hutama Karya reaffirms its commitment to completing the project according to the established quality standards and timeline, so that the Sekolah Rakyat can soon be utilised,” said Hamdani. Hutama Karya states that the SR construction is part of efforts to provide more equitable and decent education access for children in areas that have previously been far from education service centres.
