People's School in Kulon Progo Ready to Accommodate 1,080 Students by June 2026
The Ministry of Public Works (PU) is targeting the completion of the construction of the People’s School Phase II in Kulon Progo Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY), by June 2026. The school, built in Bulurejo Ward, Lendah Sub-district, is designed to accommodate up to 1,080 students. As of now, the construction progress of the People’s School has reached around 38 percent. The construction is being carried out on a 7.1-hectare plot of land with a State Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBN) of Rp 214 billion. This is part of the government’s efforts to provide decent and integrated educational facilities for underprivileged communities. Minister of PU Dody Hanggodo stated that the construction of the People’s School is a long-term government investment in improving the quality of human resources (HR). The project is being executed by the Ministry of PU through the DIY Strategic Infrastructure Implementation Work Unit (Satker), with PT Abadi Karya Pradanaraya as the implementing contractor under a cooperation operation scheme (KSO) and supervision by PT Ciriajasa Engineering Consultant. To meet the completion target, construction acceleration is being carried out by increasing the number of workers and organising work in parallel across several construction zones. Head of the DIY Strategic Infrastructure Implementation Satker, Raden Haryo Satriyawan, mentioned that the number of workers has increased from around 650 people to 840 people and will continue to be added up to nearly 925 workers. “We are accelerating through adding workers and organising work in several construction zones so that the construction process can run more in parallel,” said Haryo. The Kulon Progo People’s School is designed as an integrated educational area equipped with various facilities, such as technology-based classrooms, skills laboratories, libraries, digital learning centres, and dormitories for students and teachers. In addition, there are supporting facilities in the form of a clinic, healthy canteen, sports field, extracurricular rooms, and green open spaces.
