The Batang Regency Government (Pemkab) in Central Java has confirmed that the construction of a People’s School (Sekolah Rakyat) in Clapar Village, Subah District, for children from poor and extremely poor families will begin in mid-July 2026. Batang Regent Faiz Kurniawan stated on Tuesday that the groundbreaking ceremony for the school, which will cover approximately 8.37 hectares, is scheduled for 15 July 2026, with a completion target of December 2026. “Yes, groundbreaking will start on 15 July. So the target is for it to be finished by December,” said Regent Faiz. He added that once construction is complete, the recruitment of primary school (SD), junior high school (SMP), and senior high school (SMA) students from underprivileged families will follow. “Next year we can already recruit SD, SMP, and SMA children from disadvantaged groups,” he said. In the initial operational phase for the upcoming academic year, the planned student intake is approximately 300. The primary target group consists of children from poor and extremely poor families registered in the government’s social data system. The programme also targets children at risk of dropping out due to economic limitations. Regarding teaching and educational staff, Regent Faiz said the recruitment process is expected to begin this year ahead of the new academic year, although the authority for recruitment lies with the central government. The People’s School in Clapar Village is designed as a boarding school equipped with various educational support facilities, including classrooms, sports amenities, and other supporting infrastructure to ensure student comfort. “Through this programme, we hope that children from underprivileged families can obtain better educational opportunities, while simultaneously improving the quality of human resources in the future,” he said.
