The Ministry of Public Works (PU) is pushing for the acceleration of the People’s School Phase II construction to complete by June 2026. The project is targeted to be ready for use at the start of the new academic year in July.

The acceleration was discussed by Minister of PU Dody Hanggodo during a coordination meeting with seven state-owned construction enterprises (BUMN Karya) as implementing contractors at the Ministry of PU office in Jakarta on Monday (27/4). The People’s School Phase II construction is being carried out at 104 locations spread across 32 provinces and 102 regencies/cities throughout Indonesia, with a capacity for up to 112,320 students in 3,744 learning groups.

Dody emphasised that the People’s School construction is one of the government’s priority programmes to improve the quality of human resources through the provision of decent and modern educational facilities.

“The construction of all People’s Schools Phase II must be ensured to be fully completed by June, before the new academic year begins in July,” he stated in a written remark on Monday (27/4/2026).

In the meeting, Dody also highlighted several construction sites in various regions to ensure the acceleration proceeds according to target. He urged the resolution of various technical obstacles in the field, from construction access, material mobilisation, workforce needs, to the readiness of supporting infrastructure to ensure all construction stages proceed according to target.

“Still prioritise quality in the construction, both in terms of materials and building structures, because this school building must be able to last to be utilised for at least 20 years,” he added.

Dody also encouraged all BUMN Karya to strengthen synergy with the Ministry of PU, particularly the Directorate General of Strategic Infrastructure, as well as local governments to ensure the construction can be completed on time. The Ministry of PU is optimistic that this construction acceleration will expand access to quality education while supporting the equitable distribution of educational services in various regions.
