People's Economy Train Tickets on Sale Until 1 April 2026, Fare IDR 175,000

The People’s Economy Train has been officially launched by PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) on 1 March 2026.

This train service operates an initial route between Pasar Senen and Lempuyangan stations under train code KA 7040, serving as a transport option during the 2026 Lebaran holiday period.

“This people’s economy train represents part of KAI’s commitment to providing safe, comfortable, and affordable public transportation for all levels of society,” explained KAI Corporate Communications Manager for Jakarta Regional Office (Daop 1) Franoto Wibowo, as quoted by Kompas.com on Wednesday (11 March 2026).

According to the official Instagram account @kai121_, as of Friday (13 March 2026), the KA 7040 train composition consists of five executive-class cars and four people’s economy cars.

Each people’s economy car provides 93 seats, with a total of 372 economy-class seats configured in 2 and 3-seat arrangements.

The seating design has been modified so that the seat angles are no longer perpendicular at 90 degrees, adjusted to provide greater comfort for passengers.

The reduction in economy-class seats from the original 106 to 93 per car has resulted in improved legroom, ensuring that passengers’ knees do not collide with the seat in front.

Seats are available for purchase until 1 April 2026, with limited availability to allow passengers to adjust their travel dates accordingly.
