People's Calling Alliance Holds Rally at Gejayan Intersection
Hundreds of people under the banner of the People’s Calling Alliance held a demonstration at the three-way junction of Jalan Affandi, or Gejayan intersection, in Caturtunggal, Depok, Sleman. They brought 10 demands to the action.
According to detikJogja monitoring at around 15:50 WIB, the crowd, dressed entirely in black, packed the junction area. They unfurled banners and posters of various sizes and used a pickup truck as a speaker’s platform.
The crowd was not only made up of students but also included academics, activists, labourers, and online motorcycle taxi drivers. Representatives from these various groups took turns giving speeches, shouting their demands. Some also read poems with a tone of resistance.
‘We ask on this occasion that President Prabowo and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming, if they are still sane and pro-people, review all the programmes that are being disputed,’ shouted Professor Masduki, a Professor in Media and Journalism Science at the Communication Science Study Programme of the Indonesian Islamic University (UII), during his speech on Saturday (13/6).
As a result of the mass action, traffic flow towards the Gejayan intersection from the north, west, and south was completely closed. Police diverted vehicles to alternative roads.
Here are the 10 Demands of the Action Masses:
Stop the Free Nutritious Meal Project, which is prone to corruption and lacks public oversight.
Reject the Red and White Village Cooperatives, which deviate from the principles of the people’s economy and have the potential to become instruments of political control.
Revoke the revisions to the TNI Law, the Polri Law, the Prosecutor’s Law, and the Military Justice Law. Protect the freedoms of expression, opinion, assembly, and association. End impunity for state apparatus. TNI and Polri members who commit violence against civilians must be tried openly and independently, not through judicial mechanisms that perpetuate impunity. Justice for victims must not be defeated by corps solidarity.
Realise quality free education for all Indonesian people.
Realise free health services and facilities accessible to all people without discrimination.
Restore and improve the economic welfare of the people. Eliminate inequality in all sectors. Lower the prices of staple goods, fuel, and basic service tariffs. The people are not the bearers of the burden resulting from corruption and state mismanagement.
Protect workers’ rights. Stop the exploitation of domestic workers, teachers, farm labourers, mine workers, factory workers, digital platform workers, and all informal sector workers. Stop the practice of work informalisation that eliminates workers’ rights through pseudo-partnership schemes and exploitative contracts. Guarantee decent wages, social protection, health, and occupational safety, and enforce regulations against companies and capitalists that violate workers’ rights.
Immediately take action against online transport application companies that violate KP 667 and 1001. Remove problematic articles in Perpres 27 of 2026 concerning fixed-term partnership contracts. Immediately create an academic paper for the Online Transport Bill and involve online motorcycle taxi organisations in the drafting and discussion process.
Free all political prisoners and citizens criminalised for voicing criticism and participating in waves of people’s actions. Stop terror, intimidation, criminalisation, surveillance, and all forms of silencing of people’s movements, journalists, academics, artists, and human rights defenders.
Guarantee the people’s rights to land, housing, and decent living space. Stop forced evictions, land grabbing, commercialisation of public space, and development policies that sacrifice citizens for the interests of investors and elites. Investigate and resolve the corruption of the Mandala Krida Stadium, Yogyakarta.
