People must be disaster resilient: UN

INDONESIA: United Nations called on the world community not to repeat past mistakes in regard to disasters and make communities disaster resilient.

The world body conveyed this message in a statement, which was made available to The Jakarta Post by the United Nations Information Center in Jakarta, to mark the International Day for Disaster Reduction on Oct. 13.

This year's theme is "Learning from today's disaster for tomorrow's hazards."

"All should resolve not to repeat the mistakes of the past. All should work together to improve the chain of information and decision-making, so that their communities are better prepared should hazards strike again," the statement said. -- JP
