Pentagon records over 200 US troops wounded in July

Four US military personnel have been killed and 207 others wounded since the US military resumed military action against Iran in July, according to updated casualty data from the Department of Defense. As of 25 July, the Pentagon’s Defense Casualty Analysis System recorded these figures under a newly added tracking category titled ‘Overseas Operations’. The new category, however, does not provide specific details such as the time, location, or cause of death for the fallen personnel. While the four deaths have been confirmed to have occurred during the new phase of the US-Iran conflict, the Department of Defense has not yet confirmed whether all of the wounded personnel are linked to the hostilities. Under US law, the president generally cannot commit US forces to hostilities for more than 60 days without congressional authorisation. Media reports indicate that the Trump administration sent a letter to Congress on 10 July, stating that Iranian attacks on three commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz on 7 July violated a previous ceasefire agreement. Based on this, the White House designated 7 July as the start date for a new phase of combat with Iran.
