Pentagon records over 200 US troops wounded in July

Washington (ANTARA) - Four United States military personnel have been killed and 207 others wounded since the US military resumed its operations against Iran in July, according to casualty data updated by the US Department of Defense on Sunday (26/7).

According to the Pentagon’s Defence Casualty Analysis System, as of 25 July the US military operation ‘Epic Fury’ against Iran had resulted in 14 US military personnel killed and 417 others wounded.

The database recently added a new tracking category titled ‘Overseas Operations’, which separately records US military casualties since 7 July, listing four dead and 207 wounded.

However, this new category only lists the names of those killed and does not provide specific details such as the time, location, or cause of death of the casualties.

Although the four fatalities have been confirmed as having died in the latest round of the US-Iran conflict, the US Department of Defence has not confirmed whether all of the wounded personnel were related to that conflict.

Under US law, the president is generally prohibited from engaging US forces in hostilities for more than 60 days without authorisation from Congress.

According to media reports, the Trump administration sent a letter to Congress on 10 July stating that Iran’s attacks on three merchant vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz on 7 July violated a previously agreed ceasefire.

On this basis, the White House designated 7 July as the date on which a new phase of fighting with Iran began.
