Moscow (ANTARA) - The United States Department of Defense has proposed a budget of $46 billion (Rp797 trillion) for 2027 to build sovereign artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure and the AI Arsenal initiative.

This step is aimed at transitioning the department from fragmented graphics processing unit (GPU) clusters to an organised portfolio infrastructure ecosystem, accredited Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility (SCIF) data centres, and AI supercomputers, according to an analysis by RIA Novosti correspondents of the newly released Pentagon fiscal year 2027 report.

The budget request forms part of the US Department of Defense’s fiscal year 2027 budget, which totals a record $1.5 trillion (Rp25.9 quadrillion), marking a 44% surge compared to the previous year.

The US Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) has allocated $29.5 billion (Rp510 trillion) for procuring an initial fleet of cutting-edge GPUs and AI supercomputers.

Meanwhile, the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) has requested $12.3 billion (Rp212.9 trillion) for operational and maintenance funds to address infrastructure capability gaps.

These funds will be used for physical hardening of facilities, advanced cooling systems, and enhancing security standards for sensitive information facilities (SCIF) required for AI computing.

Overall, these efforts are described as a strategic initiative to build and control a fully government-operated AI ecosystem.

This is being done to ensure that critical AI capabilities and national data remain under the department’s authority, from the enterprise level to the frontline tactical guard.
