Pentagon confirms death of third soldier from Iran attack

The Pentagon on Tuesday confirmed the death of a United States soldier who had been reported missing following an Iranian attack on a US airbase in Jordan on Friday, bringing the number of US military personnel killed in the attack to three. The soldier was identified as Sergeant Angel S. Rampersad, 28, from Ozone Park, New York. He is believed to have died whilst on duty on Friday, the US Department of Defense said in a statement. The Pentagon had previously stated that the attack also killed two other US military personnel. Separately, another US soldier was killed on Sunday in northern Iraq whilst conducting a controlled detonation of a downed Iranian one-way attack drone, according to US Central Command (CENTCOM). According to the Pentagon, the number of US military casualties from Iranian attacks has risen to nearly 100 over the past fortnight. US forces on Tuesday launched strikes against military targets in Iran for the eleventh consecutive night, claiming the attacks are designed to continue degrading Iran’s ability to threaten commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. In retaliation for US strikes on several provinces in Iran in recent days, Iran launched waves of missile and drone attacks targeting a number of US military bases and facilities in the region.
