Penitentiary warden in police custody

AMBON: Warden of Waiheru penitentiary in Ambon, Tahir Slamat, has been detained by police for allegedly assisting the escape of gambling boss and drug dealer Hartono Tanaya.

Three other penitentiary officials were also placed in Baguala Police detention center.

Baguala Police chief First Insp. Denny Nanlohi, said on Saturday that the arrests were made as the four failed in their duties.

"Moreover, they were also involved in a criminal conspiracy that resulted in the escape of a prisoner," he said. -- JP
