Pengudang Village in Bintan Officially Designated as Intellectual Property-Based Area
Bintan (ANTARA) - The Regional Office of the Ministry of Law for the Riau Islands (Kanwil Kemenkum Kepri) has officially designated Pengudang Tourism Village in Bintan Regency as an area based on intellectual property (IP), specifically within the categories of copyright and trademarks.
The designation was marked by the presentation of an award certificate (No. M.HH-2.KI.09.02 Year 2025) regarding Pengudang Village as an IP Area. The certificate, signed by the Indonesian Minister of Law, Supratman Andi Agtas, was presented by the Head of the Riau Islands Regional Office, Edison Manik, to the Regent of Bintan, Roby Kurniawan, at the Bintan Regent’s Office Hall on Tuesday.
“This award is given as a form of support for the development of the intellectual property ecosystem in the regions, particularly in encouraging the utilisation of copyrights and trademarks as part of strengthening the potential of tourism villages,” said Edison Manik.
The Head of the Regional Office stated that the IP status was granted to Pengudang Village because the village has been highly active in registering various local potentials, ranging from destination trademarks and MSME products to artistic and cultural copyrights. This status assists local creative economy actors and MSMEs in protecting their business identities and works from plagiarism, while simultaneously increasing the economic value of regional specialty products.
“This designation also encourages community awareness regarding the importance of legal protection for local works, products, and innovations, ensuring they possess higher economic value and are protected from claims by other parties,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Regent of Bintan, Roby Kurniawan, expressed his appreciation to the Riau Islands Regional Office of the Ministry of Law for its intensive efforts in mentoring and exploring the existing intellectual property potential in Bintan. He expressed hope that the strong collaboration maintained thus far will continue, especially as Bintan possesses diverse intellectual property potential.
“We are very grateful; this is a manifestation of extraordinary collaboration, and we hope it brings benefits for a better Bintan in the future,” said Roby.
Roby further added that Pengudang Village is one of the Coastal Malay Villages in Bintan that features a community-based seagrass conservation area. This area attracts many domestic and international tourists due to its eco-tourism appeal and pristine coastal landscapes.
