Penglipuran Festival 2026 Commences, Showcasing 'Harmony of the Earth' Theme

The 13th Penglipuran Village Festival has officially commenced, offering tourists a variety of traditional attractions and cultural displays unique to the village over three days. ‘We are once again holding the 13th Penglipuran Village Festival in 2026. The theme is Harmoni Bumi Penglipuran (Harmony of the Earth),’ said Bendesa Adat of Penglipuran Village, Wayan Budiarta, during the opening of the festival in Penglipuran Village on Thursday (9/7/2026). According to observations, the festival began with a Peed Aya procession at 10.30 WITA. A line of dancers and a Balinese gamelan ensemble, or baleganjur, marked the start of the 2026 Penglipuran Village Festival. Budiarta stated that all events are centred at the Tugu Pahlawan Field on the southern side of the village. Various cultural performances are being staged at the location to entertain tourists visiting Penglipuran Village. In addition to traditional and cultural performances, the festival also showcases works by village artists and typical micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSME) products from Penglipuran Village. MSME products from villages around Penglipuran are also being exhibited to visitors. ‘There are cultural performances and offerings of MSME products. We are targeting 4,000 to 5,000 visitors per day,’ said Budiarta. Budiarta explained that this year’s festival was deliberately centred in a different location. Previously, the Penglipuran Festival was held in front of the temple on the north side of the village and in the bamboo forest area. Now, all events are concentrated at the Tugu Pahlawan Field. The location was chosen for its historical value as the place where Penglipuran Village’s hero, TNI Captain Anak Agung Gede Anom Mudita, fell. ‘This year we are holding it at the heroes’ monument. This field is quite monumental and heroic for us, because our hero, Anak Agung Anom Mudita, fell in this place,’ he said.
