Pencak silat fighters collect five gold

CEBU CITY: Pencak silat fighters contributed two more golds in the Southeast Asian Games on Sunday, but the team's five gold overall was one below its target.

Harris Nugroho triumphed in the men's 65-70 kg E division and Ronny Saifullah in the men's 75-80 kg G division, while Andy Zulkarnaen, Diyan Kristianto and Rosmiati were forced to settle for silver.

Indonesia earlier won three gold from the men's singles, as well as men's and women's team art division.

Haris outclassed his Malaysian opponent Norhasmizan Bin Abdullah 5-0, and was then followed by Rony with another convincing 5-0 win over Abdul Kadir Mohd. Ibrahin of Singapore.

"Despite some unfair judging, I think the best way to win the match is through a strong performance and a convincing victory, so the judges don't have a chance to cheat," Haris said.

With five gold, four silver and two bronze, Indonesia was second in the competition behind Vietnam, who collected seven gold, three silver and two bronze. -- JP
