The government of Penajam Paser Utara Regency (PPU) in East Kalimantan is reminding civil servants (ASN) not to misunderstand the work-from-home (WFH) policy. In PPU Regency, the WFH mechanism for some ASN will begin to be implemented every Friday.

PPU’s Regional Secretary, Tohar, emphasised that the policy does not mean employees are getting extra time off. He stressed that ASN must still carry out their duties as usual even when working from home.

“WFH does not mean a day off work, but carrying out official duties from home responsibly,” said Tohar, the Regional Secretary of the Penajam Paser Utara Regency Government, on Wednesday, when asked about the implementation of the work-from-home scheme for employees in Penajam.

According to him, during the implementation of WFH, every employee still has the obligation to carry out tasks according to their respective functions. ASN are also asked not to use this policy for activities outside of official interests, such as relaxing or travelling without work reasons.

To ensure the policy runs optimally, every work unit in the PPU Regency Government environment is asked to ensure the work system remains effective, well-organised, and has a clear reporting flow up to the East Kalimantan Provincial Government level.

In addition, budget efficiency is one of the main focuses in the implementation of WFH. The local government encourages all work units to be more careful in using resources.

“One aspect that is a concern is the efficiency of budget use, especially in operational spending,” he said.

Tohar also reminded the importance of saving on facilities such as electricity, water, and fuel oil (BBM), to support more controlled expenditures.

“It is hoped that every section or work unit pays attention to the use of electricity, water, fuel oil (BBM), and other needs to be more frugal and measured,” he added.

Supervision of this efficiency will be carried out strictly, especially by the General Section of the PPU Regional Secretariat. Regular evaluations will also be applied to ensure this policy runs according to its objectives.

Not only that, ASN are also asked to be wise in personal spending during WFH, including in the use of BBM, so that this policy truly has an impact on saving the local government’s budget.

The implementation of WFH every Friday in the PPU Regency Government environment officially starts this week. All employees are expected to remain disciplined, maintain productivity, and continue to improve the quality of public services even when working from home, Tohar said.
