Penajam Paser Utara (ANTARA) – Penajam Paser Utara Regency (PPU) Government in East Kalimantan Province is preparing monitoring posts to oversee traffic on the Nusantara Capital (IKN) toll-free highway, which will be temporarily operational during the 2026 Eid holiday travel period.

“The regency government is focusing on ensuring smooth traffic flow and safety for users of the temporarily opened IKN toll road during the Eid holiday period,” said Penajam Paser Utara Regent Mudyat Noor in Penajam on Friday.

He stated that users of the IKN toll-free highway can exit through the Nusantara International Airport access road in Pantai Lango Village, Penajam District, to reach IKN, Penajam Paser Utara Regency, or South Kalimantan Province.

“Monitoring and supervision will be conducted on regency roads directly connected to the IKN toll road,” he explained.

Primary focus points include the ITCI Sepaku Junction, the route leading to IKN’s Central Government Core Area (KIPP), and access to residential areas near the toll road exits.

The temporary opening of the IKN toll road is seen as significantly helpful in reducing vehicle congestion during the Eid holiday period, particularly alleviating traffic congestion on several road sections during peak outbound and return travel periods.

Meanwhile, Regent Mudyat Noor reminded the public planning to travel during the holiday to exercise caution, observe traffic regulations, maintain safe distances, and avoid driving whilst fatigued.

The Head of the East Kalimantan Regional Road Implementation Office (BBPJN) Yudi Hardiana stated that the functional toll route will open free of charge from 13 to 29 March 2026, with operational hours from 06:00 to 18:00 WITA.

The 52.5-kilometre toll-free highway temporarily opened for the Eid period can be fully traversed without traffic management measures, with two temporary rest areas prepared along the toll route.

Toll users have two exit access options: via the Nusantara Airport route connected to Riko Junction leading to Penajam Paser Utara Regency and South Kalimantan Province, and via Toll 6A connected to the ITCHI Sepaku Junction, according to Yudi Hardiana.
