Penajam Government Transforms Green Space into Productive Hub for MSMEs
The Penajam Paser Utara Regency Government in East Kalimantan is transforming a 6.8-hectare green open space (RTH) into a productive area to provide benefits and space for local micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). Khairil Achmad, Head of Housing, Settlements, and Landscaping at the local Housing, Settlement Areas, and Land Affairs Agency (Perkimtan), stated on Thursday that green open spaces have broad functions for residents, including supporting UMKM. The RTH, located in front of Panglima Sentik Stadium on Jalan Provinsi Kilometer 8 in Nipah-nipah Urban Village, Penajam District, is being upgraded and equipped with a management building, supporting facilities, and a ready-to-use UMKM area. “The revitalisation of the RTH is carried out to provide space for local UMKM and creative economy facilities,” he said. “The RTH is prepared to become a public space as well as a space for community economic growth.” The layout for UMKM spaces is aligned with the area’s design so that business activities are organised and do not disrupt the function of the open space. The green open space also facilitates a healthier lifestyle for the community, serves as an affordable family tourism destination, and is beneficial for social interaction that strengthens community bonds. “It is also equipped with light sports facilities, such as a track specifically designed for leisurely walks,” he added. Khairil Achmad expressed hope that the RTH would become a choice for the community to conduct leisure and sports activities, integrated with UMKM, thereby simultaneously driving the economy.
