Penajam Government Transforms Green Space into Productive Hub for MSMEs

The Penajam Paser Utara Regency Government, East Kalimantan Province, has transformed a 6.8-hectare green open space (RTH) into a productive area to provide benefits and space for local micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

“Green open spaces serve a broad function for citizens, including MSMEs,” said Khairil Achmad, Head of Housing, Settlements, and Parks at the Department of Housing, Settlements, and Land in Penajam Paser Utara, on Thursday, when discussing the improvements to the green space in Penajam.

Located in front of the Panglima Sentik Stadium on Provincial Road Kilometer 8, Nipah-nipah Village, Penajam District, the green space has been refurbished and equipped with management buildings, supporting facilities, and an MSME area ready for use.

“The improvement of the green open space was carried out to provide space for local MSMEs and as a facility for the creative economy,” he said.

“The green space is being prepared to serve as both a public space and a space for community economic growth,” he added.

The layout for the MSME area has been aligned with the regional design to ensure that business activities are well-organised and do not interfere with the primary function of the open space.

The green space also facilitates a healthier lifestyle for the community, serves as an affordable family tourism destination, and provides a venue for social interaction to strengthen community ties.

“It is also equipped with light sports facilities, such as tracks specifically designed for leisure walking,” he said.

Khairil Achmad noted that the green space is expected to become a preferred choice for residents engaging in leisure and exercise, integrated with MSMEs to simultaneously drive the local economy.
